Artist Statement:
The images shown on my Saxonville Studios webpage are part of a series that comments
on the natural forces of weathering and erosion, and our own interaction with the environment
– and how objects from our lives are fragmented and weathered by nature and time.
I use layers that add and conceal, destroy and build. By painting over photographs and text, adding pieces of other images and text, scraping away paint to reveal the underlying image,
I create new images. It’s a process of covering and uncovering that mimics the cycle of overgrowth and erosion by natural forces. And, in the way that nature covers and uncovers the debris from our daily lives, in these images, bits and pieces float to the top.
