Artist Statement
I’m endlessly fascinated with mark-making and how a
variety of marks come together to convey meaning. I feel a
strong affinity with native cultures, like the aboriginal
people of Australia, who use abstract images and marks to
convey spiritual truths and messages.
I am a writer as well an artist, and I often layer and incorporate
text in my work. Often the words are unreadable, though the
text I choose often comes from one deliberately chosen source.
I’m attracted to old books and maps and any paper that
looks and feels worn and aged.
The title of a piece is often some bit of text embedded in
the work.
My art and my way of working appear ”random” but
I always feel like I’m tapping into a true part of myself.
I feel I’m grabbing hold of something not easily spoken
and fixing that image, feeling or moment in a piece of art.
